How to size a commercial truck
- GVWR and payload. The number that matters most. Add up the body, the tools, the material and the crew before you shop, not after.
- Single rear wheel vs. dual rear wheel. SRW parks easier and costs less in tires. Duals add stability and payload under a loaded service or dump body.
- 4x4 vs. 2WD. Four-wheel drive earns its keep on unimproved sites, fields and winter hills. Two-wheel drive saves money up front and in maintenance on paved routes.
- Cab configuration. Regular cab maximizes body length on the frame; SuperCab and Double Cab add lockable interior storage; crew cab moves the whole crew in one vehicle.
- Gas vs. diesel. Gas is cheaper to buy and simpler to service. Diesel pays off on sustained towing, heavy daily payload and high annual mileage.
- License class. If your operation has a GVWR ceiling you need to stay under, tell us the number and we'll show you only the units that fit under it.
