Used Pickup Trucks for Sale in Richmond, KY

Central KY Truck and Trailer Sales stocks used pickup trucks built to work, not to commute. Our lot at 3585 Colonel Road in Richmond leans heavily toward three-quarter-ton and one-ton heavy duty — Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty, Ram 2500 and 3500, and Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD — with half-ton Silverado 1500s mixed in. Most are 4x4, most are crew cab or SuperCab, and every one of them is on the lot in Madison County today. Call (859) 623-0444 to have one pulled around.

Half-ton, three-quarter-ton, one-ton: what the numbers mean

  1. 1500 / 150 (half-ton). Silverado 1500 and F-150 class. Best ride quality, best fuel economy, plenty of truck for a bumper-pull utility trailer, a bed of mulch or a camper under its rated weight.
  2. 2500 / 250 (three-quarter-ton). F-250 Super Duty, Ram 2500, Silverado 2500HD. The middle ground most Kentucky contractors and farm operations land on — real payload and real towing without a dually's footprint.
  3. 3500 / 350 (one-ton). F-350 Super Duty, Ram 3500, Silverado 3500HD. Built for gooseneck and fifth-wheel loads, loaded dump trailers, skid steers and heavy equipment.

If you already know what you'll be pulling, start from the trailer and work back to the truck. Tell us the loaded weight and the hitch type and we'll point you at the right axle rating.

Towing and hauling around Central Kentucky

Trucks here pull hay wagons and livestock trailers on Madison and Garrard County farms, gooseneck equipment trailers to jobsites off US-25 and KY-52, car haulers up I-75 to Lexington, and travel trailers down to Lake Cumberland and out toward the Red River Gorge. That's a wide range of loads, and the difference between a truck that does it comfortably and one that's working at its limit comes down to payload, rear axle ratio and hitch type — not horsepower alone.

Pairing a truck with a trailer in the same visit is the most common thing that happens here. Browse our utility, dump, car hauler and equipment trailers or our campers and travel trailers and we'll make sure the two match before you leave.

4x4 or 2WD in Madison County

Four-wheel drive is the default request here, and for good reason: gravel farm lanes, muddy field entrances, unimproved jobsite access and the hills between Richmond, Berea and Irvine in January all reward it. Two-wheel drive is the better buy if you run paved routes, keep weight in the bed and want lower purchase and maintenance cost. We stock both, along with dual rear wheel one-tons for the heaviest gooseneck work.

Cab and bed configurations

  1. Regular cab. Shortest wheelbase, easiest to maneuver, longest usable bed for the money.
  2. SuperCab / Double Cab / Extended Cab. Secure, dry, lockable storage behind the seats without the length of a crew cab. A favorite of one- and two-man crews.
  3. Crew Cab / SuperCrew. Full rear doors and a full back seat. Moves the crew to the site and the family on the weekend.
  4. Bed length. An 8-foot bed carries full sheet goods flat and makes gooseneck hookups easier; a 6.5-foot bed is easier to park and turn.

Gas or diesel

Our heavy-duty inventory includes both. Diesels on the lot have included the 6.7L Cummins turbo I-6 in Ram 2500 and 3500 and the Duramax 6.6L turbo V8 in Silverado HD — engines chosen for torque, sustained towing and long service life. On the gas side you'll find the 6.4L HEMI V8, GM's 6.0L and 6.2L V8s and the Ford Triton 6.8L V10. The honest rule of thumb: diesel pays for itself if you tow heavy and often, and gas is the smarter buy if towing is occasional and you'd rather spend less up front and on maintenance.

High miles on a work truck

A lot of our heavy-duty pickups show six figures on the odometer, and that's normal for the class — these trucks are engineered for it. What matters more than the number is how the truck was used, how it was maintained and what it needs now. We'll walk you through each one honestly, and you're welcome to have any truck on the lot inspected before you buy it.

Pickup truck questions we get every week

What size pickup do I need to tow my trailer?

Start with the loaded weight of the trailer and the hitch type. Bumper-pull utility and car hauler loads usually work behind a half-ton or three-quarter-ton; gooseneck and fifth-wheel loads, loaded dump trailers and equipment generally call for a one-ton. Call us with your numbers and we'll match it.

Do you have 4x4 pickups?

Yes — 4x4 makes up the majority of our heavy-duty pickup inventory, in regular cab, SuperCab and crew cab. Use the filters on this page or tell us what you need.

Do you have work trucks with service bodies instead of a pickup bed?

We do — those live on our commercial trucks page, along with dump, flatbed, box and cab-and-chassis units.

Where are you, and who do you sell to?

3585 Colonel Road, Richmond, KY 40475, open 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM — get directions. Buyers come from Richmond, Berea, Lexington, Nicholasville, Winchester, Irvine, Mount Vernon, Lancaster and across Central and Eastern Kentucky.

Can I sell you my truck without buying one?

Yes. Head to sell us your truck or trailer and tell us what you have.
